Thomas Clint
From the newspaper
obituary:
The death occurred at
his home on Monday evening of Thomas Clint. The late Mr. Clint had not
been in good health for some time but he did not appear any worse and
seemed to be real cheerful all day and at 7:30 o’clock he was seized
with a paralytic stroke and at 8:35 passed peacefully away. He was one
of the oldest residents of Smith Falls and the neighboring country. He
was born in Northumberland, England, eighty-three years ago, coming to
Canada with his parents when he was two years old. When he was
fourteen years old his parents settled on a farm a few miles outside
of Smith Falls and he resided there until he moved to town thirty
years ago. About sixty years ago he married
Margaret McIntyre, who still survives
him, and to them were born nine children. The late Mr. Clint was for
some years a carpenter after moving to town, but had for the last five
years lived a retired life. He was always an industrious man, a
Presbyterian in religion and a Liberal in politics, and up to the last
year always voted at all elections, but ill health prevented him at
the last elections. Besides his wife, he is survived by seven
daughters and two sons: Duncan and John of Flint, Mich. U.S.A. Mrs.
H.C. Perrin, New Liskeard; Mrs. N. Hunter, Cartwright, Man.; Mrs. J.R.
Farrell, Jasper Road; Mrs. P. Boucher, Mrs. J. Farrell, Smith Falls;
and Tena and Mary, at home; also two sisters and two brothers: Dr. G.J.
Clint, Winnipeg. Man.; and James Clint of Calgary, Alberta; Mrs. W.P.
Young, Almonte: and Miss Janie Clint of Brockville. The funeral will
be held from his late home, 55 George Street, tomorrow (Thursday)
afternoon at 2:30 o’clock to the Public cemetery.
The obituaries for both
Thomas and his wife, Margaret, report they had 9 children. Yet,
according to Elaine Kirkham’s
Our Clint Family,
Thomas and Margaret had 10
children, which included a son who died in infancy.
