Robert Johnson,
6, of 2313 Dupont-St, Injured Fatally When He Runs into Street in
Front of Auto.
The body of a boy, killed shortly
afternoon today in a automobile accident was identified at 2 o’clock
as that of Robert Johnson six years old, 2313 Dupont-St.
The boy, a son of Mr.and Mrs. Fred
Johnson was fatally injured when he ran into the street into the path
of an automobile driven by Joseph McFadden, 2164 Forest Hill-av, at
Parkhurst-st and Forest Hill-ave. Mr. Fadden took him to Hurley
hospital where he was pronounced dead from a skull fracture when
admitted.
Mr. McFadden, was bringing his 11-year
old sister, Margaret, back to the Civic Park school when the accident
occurred. Due to the fact that Mr. McFadden took the boy to the
hospital immediately, more than an hour elapsed before he was
identified. Traffic Investigator Clair J. Brown and Officer K.C.
Wertman, went to the Civic Park school where Robert is a 1-B student.
A check of the school records disclosed that he was not in school, and
officers went to the Dupoint-st address to investigate.
Lived with Grandparents
There they learned that the boy had been living
with his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Clint, 920 W.
Hamilton-av. The boy’s father went immediately to Hurley hospital
where he made the identification.
Brown and Wertman said they learned that
the boy’s mother worked at the AC Spark Plug Co. Mr. Johnson is
employed by the same company, working nights.
The boy was on this way back to the Civic
Park school after having gone to the home of his grandparents for
luncheon. He was accompanied by Edgar Hendrick, seven years old and
Ervin Hendrick, five, brothers 808 W. Hamilton-av. The Hendrick boys
said that they did not notice the approach of Mr. McFadden’s
automobile until Robert darted out in the street in front of the car.
They said the car was only a few yards away when they first noticed
it.
Besides the parents, Robert is survived
by a younger brother, Walter.
Boy and Victims’ Funerals are held
Services for lads killed same day are largely
attended on Wednesday
Funeral services were held Wednesday
afternoon for two schoolboy victims of automobiles who were run down
on Flint streets, Monday afternoon. Large numbers of friends,
including schoolmates, attended both services.
The services for Robert Johnson, six
years old son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Johnson, 2313 Dupont-0st was held
at the Groves & Co. chapel, the Rev. D.F. Binders, pastor of the First
Evangelical church officiating. Norman Reamer, leader of the church
choir sang “Rocks of Ages.” And “Safe in the Arms of Jesus.” Seated
with the immediate family near the flower banked casket were six
traffic patrol boys from the Civic Park school which Robert attended.
Burial took place in Grace Lawn cemetery.
The funeral of John Kalocy, eight yeas
old, 1806 Leith-st was held at St. Joseph’s Hungarian Catholic church,
the Rev. Fr. Anthony Csaky officiating. Many of the pupils of the
Franklin school were at the church, which was crowded. A brief prayer
service marked the rites. Burial took place in All Saints cemetery.
